Members of our dojos were given the wonderful opportunity of training with the renowned karate master Murakami Shihan of Japan recently.

Two sessions were held at the Vereeniging dojo. The feedback from all karateka who participated in the sessions was that the classes were exciting and very dynamic.

It was a privilege to witness the techniques and dynamics of this wonderful karate instructor.

Murakami Shihan is twice World Champion.

Murakami Shihan was accompanied by the President of KSA (karate South Africa) Sonny Pillay Shihan.

It was really a privilege for us to host Sonny Shihan. KSA is the National Karate Body recognised by the Government and SASCOC.

A very successful National Gasshuku was held in February 2014.

The venue for this year’s Gasshuku was once again the beautiful West Coast National Park.

The group of karateka and their partners from Gauteng travelled to the Cape by train.

This proved to be a great idea with lots of fun on the way. The group got a chance to get to know each

other in a more social way during the trip which started in Potchefstroom and ended in Wellington.

A bus was there (organised by Jan Sensei) to take the group to the venue.

The training started early in the morning (if fact before the sun was up!!) and continued throughout the day.

The training was very intense with a lot of information passed on by the various instructors.

Thanks to all instructors for their valued input.

Junior members from the Langebaan dojo joined the seniors for a training session on Saturday morning

and the group all enjoyed lunch together before the youngsters went back home.

During the day time was also allocated to discuss the WSKF S.A. Constitution and the Technical Manual.

Theanora Brand from the Langebaan Dojo also had the opportunity of grading for her Shodan at this event.

Congratulations to Theanora on attaining your Shodan grading.

A special word of thanks must go to Jan Sensei and his members from Langebaan for the wonderful hospitality afforded

the group.  The accommodation was super, the food was delicious and all the arrangements could not have been better.

Jan Sensei you are a star!

Thanks to everyone who attended the Gasshuku– the camaraderie within the whole group was fabulous.

We all look forward to the next session!

The annual Dukas Karate Institute “prize giving” was held on Wednesday 5th march 2014 in a pleasant outdoor event.

Recognition was giving to members for their achievement and performance during 2013.

Mike Sensei urged all members and parents to note the name of the award that the person is receiving.

It is important to realise that karate is not only about winning medals at championships – for this we have the achievement awards.

It is just as much about dedication, progress, commitment and karate spirit.

That is why we honour members who stand out in these important ways. An overview of the successes of 2013 was given, and also opportunities for 2014 were discussed.

Thank you to all the instructors, team managers, admin staff, members and their families – you are the people who make out dojos the very happy places that they are.
